Shankarpalee is a Maharashtrian dish. They are usually made during the Diwali festival.
Ingredients 1 cup milk
1 cup powdered sugar
½ cup sugar powder (optional)
3/4 or 1 cup melted pure ghee
Wheat flour or refined flour (Maida)
Oil for frying
Method 1) Mix 1 cup milk, 1 cup melted ghee, 1cup sugar and a pinch of salt.
2) Add flour little by little as required to make dough and divide into 5-6 balls.
3) Roll each ball into a round shape (about 6-7-inch diameter). Cut into quarter inch squares or as per desired shape.
4) Heat oil in a kadai and deep fry them in medium hot oil till they turn golden.
5) Repeat the process till all dough is used.
6) Optional) - Spread sugar powder on hot Shankarpalee and mix. This makes them crispier.
7) Let them cool and then store in an airtight container.
8) Serve with tea or coffee.
